About the Book E-mail

The Visual Blueprint for Mambo is a visually-oriented users manual for the Mambo Open Source CMS. Open the book and you'll discover step-by-step screen shots that demonstrate over 220 key Mambo techniques. The visual approach to the topic makes the Visual Blueprint series one of the most effective ways to master a complex system like Mambo.

  • High-resolution screen shots demonstrate each task
  • Succinct explanations walk you through step by step
  • Two-page lessons break big topics into bite-sized modules
  • "Apply It" and "Extra" sidebars highlight useful tips

The book targets new and mid-level users and system administrators - it is not intended for programmers seeking to program or modify extensively the Mambo code. The text was prepared with reference to versions 4.5.4 and the new version 4.6, which was under development at the time of writing. Both the author and the technical editor are members of Team Mambo with intimate familiarity with the Mambo system.

What the Reviewers are Saying...

Mambo [Visual Blueprint] is the book I wish I'd had when I first installed and configured the Mambo Open Source CMS. Some things you can't learn from a book -- like how to write compelling content or how to administrate a forum -- but for anything related to installing, configuring, maintaining, and customizing this content management system, Mambo [Visual Blueprint] is easily the best single source of information. The content is appropriate and concise, and the book's layout and style are outstanding.

-Jem Matzan, The Jem Report, 07 Sep 2006.

[T]he book is structured around sets of tasks - managing Mambo templates, User admin, section and categories etc. These tasks are broken down into sub-tasks which are clearly illustrated using extensive screen shots with lots of annotations to point out the important features. This strong visual element is backed up with concise and focused text which explains not just the steps but also the underlying reasoning behind the actions being taken. The combination of visual images and clear explanations make the book function as an extremely effective tutorial and help file.

Praise for the Visual Blueprint Series

This book is perfect for me - it's highly visual and gets right to the point. What I like most about it is that each page presents a new task that you can try verbatim or, alternatively, take the ideas and build your own examples. Also, this book isn't bogged down with trying to 'tell all' - it gets right to the point. This is an excellent, excellent, excellent book and I look forward to purchasing other books in the series.

I just had to let you and your company know how great I think your books are. i just purchased my third Visual book (my first two are dog-eared now!) and, once again, your product has surpassed my expectations. The expertise, thought, and effort that go into each book are obvious, and I sincerely appreciate your efforts.

This is absolutely the best computer-related book I have ever bought. Thank you so much for this fantastic text. Simply the best computer book series I have ever seen. I will look for, recommend, and purchase more of the same.
